We have been trading in Rackheath for over 28 years and fitting towbars is our speciality. We only fit top brand towbars and ensure every installation is carried out with the same care and attention as the last.
A good installation will not only look nice, but will also be safe and secure, making sure the additional towing weight is applied to the correct, reinforced sections of the vehicle’s chassis.
Broadland Towbar & Trailer Centre staff are fully qualified in the installation of Flange, Swan, Detachable and Retractable towbars. We are proud to stock a range of premium brand towbars, including, Westfalia and Bosal. We will recommend the best towbar suitable for your vehicle.
Fixed Swan Neck Bar
This style of towbar is rapidly growing in popularity in the UK. Most modern car manufacturers base their calculations for the positioning of fixing points on the design of the fixed bar towbar. Therefore it will precisely fit and support your cars chassis. The swan neck fixed bar towbar is both easy to fit and aesthetically pleasing.
Fixed Flanged Ball
The fixed flanged ball is a commonly used style of towbar within the UK. The Brink Flanged Ball Towbar has a standard 50mm diameter bolt-on-ball which uses 16mm bolt fixings to attach to a flange plate. Some accessories require this type of towbar.
The detachable towbar can be mounted and removed in less than a minute giving you optimum flexibility. The detachable towbar can also be locked to prevent theft. It is more widely used if factory fitted reverse sensors are present or if number plates are designed in a low position so as not to obstruct when vehicle not towing.
Established in 1977, Bosal are now in their 35th year of trading, offering a comprehensive range of O.E quality and fully type approved range of towbars. Whether towing a horsebox, caravan or boat, transporting bicycles or using a trailer, Bosal has the towbar for the job.
Westfalia is one of the worlds leading manufacturers of towbars and vehicle specific wiring kits. Westfalia has been designing and manufacturing towbars for over 80 years and were the first to market with the ball coupling towbar, manually locking towbar, automatically locking detachable towbar with hidden receiver tube, electrically retractable and manually retractable towbars. All Westfalia products comply with stringent European Regulations.
As modern day vehicles become ever more complex it is vital to consider how your towbar electrics are installed. Until a few years ago towing electrics would have simply been connected to the rear lights of the car. With more vehicles now being controlled by computer and complex wiring systems, towing electrics are no longer straight-forward.
Broadland Towbar & Trailer Centre are fully trained to be able to offer you the best form of wiring to suit your requirements and reprogramme the ECU (electronic control unit) in your vehicle, to not only enable your trailer rear lights and indicators to work, but also to temporarily disable your vehicles parking sensors and rear fog lights. The connection also allows any problems with the trailer indicators to be flagged up on the vehicle dashboard display.
Towbar electrics can be fitted with a universal relay system or a dedicated specific kit. A universal relay system can work out to be cost effective and adequate for certain vehicles, depending upon vehicle specifications but with this option you are unable to access any of the manufacturers inbuilt software. The dedicated specific wiring kit is designed to operate all systems inbuilt in the vehicle from new and work the systems as the manufacturer intended when towing. Re-coding of the car may be required when using a specific wiring kit which we can also carry out.
7 Pin (Single electrics, one socket)
This configuration offers all obligatory rear light systems on trailers, lightboards and cycle carriers.
7 Pin (Twin electrics, two sockets)
This offers additional electrics for caravan services and reverse lights (if fitted).
13 Pin (European Socket)
This can be wired with or without caravan services. In the market place today, any new trailer that meets EU requirements cannot work through a standard 7 pin socket, therefore the 13 pin socket is becoming more popular. It can be wired in a ‘single’ format for cost effectiveness or wired for full caravan services ‘twin’ format. Many detachable towbars now only allows for one socket fitment. This means that in the near future 13 pin electrics will become the standard format.
